FIRE ON ICE series by Brenda Rothert
❖ BOUND (Fire on Ice, #1)
College senior Kate Camden has learned to adapt – to her last year of school, to the promise of motherhood, to the fact that she’s doing it all alone. But just when she’s learned to adjust, heartache threatens to break her apart.
Pro hockey player Jason “Ryke” Ryker has it all: adoring fans, a promising career, and a beautiful wife. But when his seemingly perfect life is shaken by tragedy, he’s left questioning whether having it all is ever more than an illusion.
When circumstance brings Kate and Ryke together, they discover they don’t have to hurt alone. Bound by a grief that haunts them both, they must rely on one another to survive heartbreak. But that grief is more powerful than they realize, and the tie that binds them together may ultimately tear them apart.
When I got this series I expected the usual sports romance but then again this is a Brenda Rothert book and it is not just your usual romance. From the beginning we see a young Kate Camden going through something a woman should never go through at her age. My heart broke for her seeing her filled with joy, happiness then a black shroud of grief cover her. Then we have Jason Ryker who is at the top of his career placed on the highest pedestal of fame, popularity and now toppled down in grief. Two people who share a common thing but are still lost. Brenda Rothert shows us that no matter how much we act strong and face the world we still need someone to lean on to. The way these two interact with each other and blossom to something they never expected happening again is what made this new book in a series by Brenda Rothert exciting for me. We see a whole new side of hockey, the athletes and the people that love them. Loved it and cannot wait for more of this series that is becoming a favorite.
❖ CAPTIVE (Fire on Ice, #2)
Two years ago, Jason and Kate Ryker were brought together by grief and bound to one another by love. Now married, they’re confronting their fears together.
But heartbreak finds them again, and the ties that bind Kate and Ryke are tested as she struggles against fear and sadness. As a grief counselor, Kate understands all too well the pain of her clients. And while her husband’s career as an NHL forward is at an all-time high, he’s coping with the frustration of feeling powerless as his wife’s hopes slip away.
Kate’s unexpected journey sheds light on the fear that imprisons her, and reveals that she is the only one who can set herself free.
In one word for Captive by Brenda Rother is WOW. In the first book, Bound, we see two people who are hurting and in Captive we see these people learning to live the life they didn`t think was possible. I love Ryke not only because well he`s sexy as sin but he is also patient when it comes to Kate. These two have gone through so much and Ryke is just one of those men you wish you had with you right now. Kate is lucky but to her she feels like she is not the full woman he needs in his life. Brenda Rothert shows us two people who are at a point where they are ready to be a family but once again they are tested. This one was a huge favorite of mine for it showed us how far Kate has come making us see through the power of forgiveness, patience, trust and leaning on those we love is what makes us stronger than ever. Loved it.
❖ EDGE (Fire on Ice, #3)
One bad hit has left the career of young NHL Center Luke Hudson in question. When he arrives for rehab with a minor league team, his injury has robbed him of the edge that made him great.
Team trainer Adella Price’s job is to help Luke get back in peak condition. But their one on one sessions shake her resolve to remain unattached. Dell is hands-off to all hockey players, even one as charming and successful as Luke.
As Luke starts to get ahold of his game again, he loses his grip on his heart. Helping Luke get his edge back brings to light what Dell is missing from her life. But those who want them apart are relentless, and with their careers on the line, Luke and Dell must decide if their love is worth risking it all.
Okay I have to say I love this series. The first two we saw a little bit of Luke and have to say I loved him even then in the previous books. Brenda Rothert shows us more about him and what he is searching for in his life. Dell is a young mother who feels the life she has always wanted is gone. Her whole life has always been about hockey and Luke is showing her that she can still have it all. It starts of as a love/hate relationship and it scares Dell for having all these feelings again in her life. Brenda Rothert shows us that no matter how much we try to deny the attraction love can still sweep in without us really expecting it. Luke is exactly what Dell needs in her life and readers the passion they have between them well grab some cold ice water for it will make you hot all over. I for one cannot wait for the next one in this series for Brenda Rothert`s Fire and Ice series is not just the sport hockey but a group of friends and family that come together with the women that complete them.
❖ DRIVE (Fire on Ice, #4)
Years of training are about to pay off for hockey player Nikola Vereshkova. A call to play in the big league means he can finally come through for those who need him. His relocation to Chicago comes with built-in friends – and one gorgeous enemy who was less than impressed with him after their first encounter.
Sadie Alexander knows all about the drastic measures men will take just to get laid. She’s not only experienced it first-hand, but lived to tell about it in her online column, Sadie Says. And even though she’s a die-hard independent woman on the outside, the recent marriage of her best friend has her secretly feeling more alone than ever.
Getting close to a foul-mouthed Russian hockey heartthrob was the last thing Sadie expected. And the timing couldn’t be worse since she’s sworn off of men for a writing assignment. The line between love and hate is eroding, and Niko and Sadie find themselves in deeper than they ever expected. Could something that started out wrong end up being just right?
Book 4 in Brenda Rothert`s Fire on Ice series is going to make you laugh, swoon and just melt for this sexy Russian and Sadie. We have a young man, Nikola who is determined to make it big and show his family all the struggles they did were not wasted. Then we have Sadie who has never felt like she belonged any where even with her friends. Two people who are looking for something yet actually have a lot in common together. Brenda Rothert showed us a little bit about Sadie from being the adopted Aunt with Dell and her little boy, Kyler it was fun to see her well flustered when it came to this sexy Nikola. I loved seeing that Brenda Rothert didn`t make their romance easy and was funny to read about them together denying the chemistry. At first it was a love/hate relationship but even this hot hockey player has to work up on his game to thaw out Sadies heart. Brenda Rothert will pull you in every direction making you want more and anxious to see what else she has in store in her harem of sexy hockey players.
