RELEASE BLITZ – Cross by Adriana Locke

Title: Cross
Series: The Gibson Boys #2.5

Author: Adriana Locke

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 25, 2018
Blurb
Cross Jacobs was a screw-up.Everyone knew it, especially him, and the point was hammered home when Kallie
Welch drove herself right out of his life.

But, she’s back.

Seeing Cross wasn’t on Kallie’s to-do list. She didn’t think she could avoid
him forever but trying never hurt anyone. One minute she’s standing by herself
and the next she’s accosted by a rich, velvety scent that could only belong to
one man: Cross.

At face value, he’s divine. All rugged and confident with a smile that melts
her right where she’s standing. It doesn’t take long to find him to be
charming, witty, and the owner of a few legitimate businesses. Not at all like
the mischievous boy she left.

He laughs and her heart flutters. With a touch of his hand, she’s dizzy. She’s
fairly certain she’s going to die when he pulls her into an embrace and touches
his lips to her forehead.

It feels right. It feels so right.

But is it?

Note: This novella was originally released in
the Team Player Anthology last winter. It has been updated a bit with a few new
chapters to round out the story.

Excerpt
Chapter One
Cross
“Where have
you been in that thing?” Machlan shouts.
The roar of
his muscle car’s engine winds down and he clicks the transmission into park.
The purplish-black paint shines in the early afternoon sun.
Having just
backed out of a parking spot onto Main Street, I check my rearview mirror. No one
is coming. “Bluebird Hill,” I tell him. “After all that rain last night, I
figured I’d test the new tires Walker put on my truck last week.”
“You’re a
fuckin’ kid.” He laughs.
“Says the
man driving that,” I tease, pointing at his ride.
“I’m not
sure what your point is. This car is the baddest thing in town.” He punches the
gas, the motor roaring like a banshee.
Glancing
around at Doc Burns’ office with two cars in the parking lot and the Linton
County History Museum across the street that only opens for the Water Festival
once a year, I grin. “That’s not saying much.”
“Go to
Hell.” His hand slips through his dark hair and over his chin. The amusement in
his features evaporates as I watch … and cringe.
I know this
look. I know all of his looks, actually, a by-product of being his best friend
as long as I can remember. Many of them concern me and a lot of them worry me.
But this one? It’s a flashing red sign with Vegas-inspired lights.
The thing
is, I can’t just ignore it. When this look comes, so does the topic of my
sister and, even though I love the both of them, I wouldn’t mind seeing them in
a padded room until they fix whatever it is between them that is so broken.
With a
sigh, I jam my truck into park too. “Yes,” I say, answering the question he’s
yet to ask. “Hadley called and isn’t coming home this weekend. She said maybe
next week.”
His jaw
works back and forth as he stares down the street. “Why?”
That single
word is spit with a lifetime of emotion. Machlan has loved my sister since the
day she moved to Linton with our father and me when our mother died. She was
fourteen and innocent and he was fifteen and infatuated. Through the years,
they were off and on and together and not—at least officially. Everyone knew
Machlan and Hadley were one and the same.
I’m not
sure why she moved away from here. Being both her brother and his best
friend precluded me from certain information, which is for the best. They both
drive me nuts without having the
details.
“Not sure,”
I reply. “She left a voicemail last night saying she wouldn’t be home today.
She didn’t pick up when I called her back.”
He flips
his gaze to me. “You didn’t talk to her after that?”
“She’s a
big girl, Mach,” I mock. “I’m sure she had shit to do.”
“Yeah.” His
fingers regrip the steering wheel as his jaw goes back to work again.
“I’m gonna
go wash this before I head back to the gym—”
“She’s all
right, though. Right?” he interrupts. His face is stone-cold sober. “I mean …”
“She’s
fine.”
He waits.
Blinks. Re-grips the wheel again. “That’s it?”
Popping my
truck into drive, I blow out a breath. “Yeah, that’s it. You want to know more?
Call her. What a fucking amazing concept.”
“Yeah. I’ll
get right on that,” he snips back.
“You
should. Then you could quit this whole thing.”
“Got
nothin’ to quit, man. Just being a decent guy.”
A decent guy. It’s my turn to turn my knuckles white on the
steering wheel.
Machlan
isn’t a decent guy. He’s a fucking great one … much better than the guy Hadley
is seeing now. A guy I haven’t mentioned to Mach since I got home a couple of
weeks ago from visiting her. I’m not mentioning him, either. I’ll save the
boyfriend an ER bill and myself the bail money.
I can’t
blame him. It has to be hard to see Hadley with another guy when, in Machlan’s
mind, she’s his girl.
My stomach
twists like it always does when my mind goes down this road. At least my girl
didn’t bring other guys back with her. Hell, she didn’t even come back at all.
“Here comes
Kip,” Machlan says, bringing me out of my reverie. Nodding toward the road in
front of him, he laughs. “I’m not moving.”
I twist in
my seat to see the sheriff coming toward us. He blares the siren twice as if to
get us to move. We don’t.
Machlan
pokes his head out of the window. “Need somethin’?” he shouts.
Laughing, I
watch Kip’s car slide carefully between Machlan’s and the curb on the other
side.
“You can’t
park in the street!” Kip yells.
“What are
ya gonna do about it?” I holler.
“Take ya
both in.”
“Don’t you
have somewhere to be?” Machlan asks. “Someone to protect and serve? Or service, if I know you?”
Kip shakes
his head as Machlan flips him the bird. The sirens come on again before Kip
hits the gas and speeds off down the street and vanishes over the hill.
When I look
back at Machlan, his attention is on his phone.
“What?” I
ask, curious about the smile on his face.
He looks at
me and laughs. Sticking the phone in the cup holder, he shrugs. “Nothing. But
can you do me a favor?”
“No.”
“I need
help moving a couple of things at Crave. Come help me. Just for a few.”
“What’s in
it for me?” I ask.
“A beer?”
Throwing
the truck in neutral, I rev the engine. It barely sounds before his is
screaming over top of mine and we jet off in opposite directions. I get to a
stop sign at the end of the street and do a quick one-eighty to head to Crave.

Blog Tour of Leaving Everest by Megan Westfield

Little known fact: Because of the hurricane-force winds that blow directly across the top of Mount Everest, there are only a handful of days in the year it can be summited. These breaks in the wind typically happen in the month of May. As in right now.

Today we are celebrating by sharing Megan Westfield’s new release—a new-adult romance set on Mount Everest. Hurry and grab it because it’s temporarily on sale for $0.99!

Title: Leaving Everest

Author: Megan Westfield

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Leaving Everest Synopsis:

Twenty-year-old Emily Winslowe has had an adventurous upbringing. Daughter of a Himalayan mountain guide, she has climbed Mount Everest and other peaks most Americans only dream of. But for all her mountaineering prowess, she’s lacking some key experiences. Namely, guys. Especially one guy in particular—Luke, her childhood best friend who she hasn’t seen since he left for college in the United States two years ago.

Luke unexpectedly reappears as a guide just in time for the Everest climbing season. He’s even more handsome than she remembers, and that something that had been building between them during their last season together is back in front of them, bigger than ever.

The problem is, there’s a detail about Emily’s past that Luke doesn’t know. It’s the reason she ended up in the Himalayas in the first place…and the reason she must make it to the summit of Mount Everest this year. It’s also the reason she would never consider following him back to Washington after the climbing season ends.

But first, they’ll have to survive the mountain.

👄Melena’s Reviews👄
This is the first I have read by Megan Westfield and wow it’s like you are actually there. The weather is cold, your face brittle, your coughs get worse and your best friend is wanting more than love from you. Emily has it all yet something in her is craving the mountain, one last climb in a way. I loved that no matter who tells her she is too young to want to do climbing mountains forever she is determined to prove everybody wrong. Megan Westfield did a beautiful job bringing this to life and seeing Luke loving her no matter the circumstances was beautiful. Get ready for the cold, suspense and a love that can thaw out any changes in life.

Damn.

As if he’d spoken out loud, Beth’s eyes fluttered open. Lifting her head, she looked across the bar, over to where he sat, aching…and right into his eyes.

Earlier today her eyes had been the color of the afternoon sky, but now they were sapphire fire, the flames licking along his skin. His gut tightened as she smiled lazily, then slowly, sensually disengaged herself from the tangle of limbs. Behind her, the couple continued their dance, but Ford didn’t care—his eyes were on the woman who was crossing the room toward him with slow, deliberate undulations of her hips.

“Fancy meeting you here, Sir Lassiter.” She stopped well into his personal space, and that vanilla perfume made his mouth water and his jaw clench.

Sir?” He arched an eyebrow and tried really hard not to do what he wanted, which was to reach out and place his hands at her waist, to slide her shirt up and feel the warmth of her skin beneath.

“Mmm, you seem like a sir.” Beth smiled and inched closer, stepping right between his spread thighs. He felt his expression darken—she knew exactly what she was doing, what she was asking for.

“What makes you say that?” His instincts told him to tug her flush against his body, to press her to him so she could feel exactly what she was doing to him.

He did not.

“You seem all proper and noble…like an aristocrat. A knight. Sir Lassiter.” Beth nudged forward just a whisper, and he felt the curve of her hip press into his inner thigh.

His mouth went dry.

“Like you’re trying so hard to do what you think is right. But tell me something.” Tilting her head back, she looked up into his eyes, searching. “Why is denying yourself something that you want, that we both want, the right thing? I know you feel it, too.”

Her open question gutted him. He’d been in the boardroom with billionaires, with sheikhs, with sharks, and he’d bested them all.

The little woman who smelled like cupcakes? She was bringing him to his knees.

“I—” He started to explain, but she cut him off, stepping back, her sudden frown breaking the spell.

“I see.” Her lips pinched together in a mockery of a smile. “I’m not the kind of woman you want to get involved with, right? Not even for a night. Let me assure you, that’s your loss.”

Wait…what? “Wait just a damn minute.” When Beth would have turned, Ford did as he’d imagined, catching her by the waist and hauling her back into the vee of his legs. This time her pelvis connected with the steel length of his erection, and he savored her sharp little intake of breath. “What do you mean?”

“I think it’s pretty self-explanatory.” Beth regarded him coldly, though she didn’t back down. “My hair, my tattoos… I’m far too wild for you.”

“Oh, do you think so?” The way she was looking up at him, so certain she was right, was a challenge, and he felt something inside him roaring to life to meet it.

She thought he was turned off because she wasn’t his usual type? Well, he couldn’t deny that she was not at all the kind of woman he was usually drawn to, and his instant attraction to her puzzled him more than a bit.

But that wasn’t the problem. The problem was what she made him feel.

“I don’t give a damn about the color of your hair or the ink on your skin. Got it?” The need to prove that she wasn’t the problem was quickly overriding his sense of restraint, the only other thing that had held him back from accepting her sweet offer that afternoon.

“I don’t know you, yet you make me want things I’m not comfortable wanting. Make me feel things I shouldn’t.” His hands at her waist squeezed, hard, to emphasize his point, and he savored her resultant shudder, which ratcheted up his own excitement.

“Why would you be uncomfortable wanting something if it doesn’t hurt anyone else?” She was watching him again, lids heavy over those big eyes. “Or maybe you think that it is hurting someone?”

He kept his stare on her face, absorbing every nuance of her expression, which was open, honest.

Something told him that Beth Marchande wasn’t going to be disgusted with the demands he might make of her.

“Sometimes a little bit of hurt is good, Sir Lassiter…especially when I’m begging you for it.”

“Fuck.” Dragging his hands up her sides, over her rib cage and the swell of her breasts, Ford clasped Beth by the shoulders and tugged her forward, crushing her smirking lips to his own.

Rather than offering him a kiss as sweet as the vanilla she smelled of, she moaned beneath the pressure and opened, her tongue surging out to tangle with his.

One hand slid behind her head and fisted in the long mane of raven and amethyst hair, just as his fingers had itched to. He tugged her head to the side roughly and then dragged his lips down the column of her throat, settling over her pulse and sinking his teeth in to claim.

“Well, what’s it going to be, Sir Lassiter?” Beth’s breathy question rasped in his ear, and she shuddered when his teeth marked her skin. “Are you going to be good? Or are you going to be bad? What do you think?”

Shoving his glass aside—he felt intoxicated just from being near her—Ford stood, making sure that every plane of his body glided against hers as he did.

Her eyes glittered with the same need that he felt as he quickly pulled a fifty from his wallet and tossed it onto the surface of the bar.

“I think…” Ford deliberately wrapped his fingers around her own, drawing them up to his lips to nip. “I think that we’re going to go back to my room right now. And I’m going to find something better for that smart mouth to do.”

About Lauren Hawkeye

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Harley and I had our whole lives planned out, until her plans changed, and those plans didn’t include me.

After years spent trying to get the love of my life out of my head and repair my too-damaged heart, I thought I was finally moving on…but life sure has a funny way of letting you know when those best-laid plans are about to be turned upside down.

My entire world was rocked when Harley unexpectedly moved back to Oak Springs. Every miserable moment I’d spent trying to get over her and every hour I’d wasted trying to erase her from my life came back to haunt me the minute she walked into my office, fear in her eyes, and asked me for help. Would I…or better yet, could I walk away from her this time after all that she had put me through?

What I really needed to know is would I be able to forge ahead with the future I had so meticulously planned—one that didn’t include Harley—or will her return finally open my eyes to a future full of endless possibilities?

A sexy agent hounds Wall Street’s hottest new wolf in an exhilarating novel from New York Timesbestselling author Lauren Layne.
Ian Bradley is the definition of a Wall Street hotshot: seven-figure salary, designer suits, and a corner office. His drive off the floor is just as potent. Every woman who knows him has felt the rush. But now he’s met his match in Lara McKenzie—a woman with the power to bring Ian to his knees.
An ambitious, whip-smart daughter of FBI agents, Lara is a rising star in fighting white-collar crime. Her latest case—the investigation of Ian Bradley for insider trading—could make her career. She knows a scoundrel when she sees one. Ian fits the bill: a cocky, ridiculously handsome bad boy with a slick swagger.
She’ll do anything to prove he’s guilty. He’ll do anything to prove he’s not. But it’s only a matter of time before their fierce battle of wits gets oh so hot and personal. Now, taking down Ian has become more than business for Lara. It’s become a pleasure—and there’s more at risk than she ever dreamed.

“[A] playful romance…Layne populates her world of high-stakes finance with charismatic characters, and the fast-paced story works well with the simmering sexual tension between the leads…It’s easy to root for this couple.” —Publishers Weekly
“Layne can always be counted on to create an engaging, steamy, and thoroughly rewarding reading experience.” —RT Book Reviews

👄Melena’s Reviews👄

Lauren Layne and her Wall Street series is one that kicks off with tons of foreplay that will make you say right now. We have two people who from the outside seem opposite but together they have something in common. Ian knows he’s hot and can have any woman yet Lara is one tough cookie. Throughout the book we see them arguing with each other and boy this cat and mouse game is HOT. Lauren Layne new series just made Wall Street sexy.

“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
